Graduate Research Assistant Position for PhD Program (Effective: Fall 2026)

The objective of this research is to conduct fundamental studies of ultra-short duration, pulsed atmospheric gas discharges using advanced diagnostics tools including optical emission spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy and high-speed imaging. Properties of nanosecond plasma sources are the foundation of numerous plasma applications in lighting, environmental remediation, and health care. This project focus on measurements of plasma properties and reactive plasma species, and involves pulse power technology, high voltage engineering, pulsed plasma system design and fabrication, advanced optical imaging, data analysis, and documentation for high-quality publications. Knowledge of electromagnetics is required for the research. Experience in CAD design, instrumentation, data analysis will be advantageous. Graduate students with MS degree or BS degree with background in electrical engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, or physics are encouraged to apply. Professional demeanor and cooperative attitude are required. Strong hands-on experience is preferred. However, strong modeling and computation skills in plasma physics will also be considered.

Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist (Effective: Summer 2026)

The Plasma and Pulsed Power Lab is seeking an enthusiastic and productive researcher in the area of plasma physics or engineering. The researcher will be working on projects in fundamental studies of pulsed plasma sources employing optical spectroscopy and imaging. Strong communication skills with evidence of publications are required. Experiences in plasma diagnostics, laser spectroscopy, and high-speed imaging are preferred. A recent PhD degree in physics or engineering in the relevant field is encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate Summer Research Internship

The Plasma and Pulsed Power Lab is seeking motivated summer students to participate in cutting edge, hands on research exploring the use of pulsed plasma for advanced water treatment. Eligibility: Full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, physics, or chemistry. Candidates should be comfortable with hands‑on research and be available for ~10 hours per week.
