Purpose

Today you will be introduced to the course and given the opportunity to start pondering and articulating your stance on the issues facing composition studies in the near future.

Discussion II: Theory v. Practice v. Praxis

We will discuss your freewrites, talk about the difference between theory, practice, and praxis, and discuss the role of rhetoric in the teaching of writing.

If there is time, we will watch Take 20: Teaching Writing, a video of writing scholars talking about their experiences teaching writing and the field of composition studies
