I am an accounting major with minor in Management Information System (MIS). I have studied English, Malay and Chinese for many years and am fluent in the languages. I believe this will prove to be an asset to my future employer because I will be flexible for international assignments. I offer a solid accounting background and education, as well as extensive experience in financial analysis/reporting and interface with accounting and administrative management. I am actively involved in Purdue Accounting Association. This is a club that serves as a link between prospective Purdue Students and the Purdue School of Management. I have developed many strong leadership and organizational skills as a result of this organization. I wrote some really terrible short stories as a kid. Today, I don't think I could write a decent poem, but I remembered the fun of playing with the word puzzles. I still love to read articles or stories. My first "serious" attempts at writing came as a teenager, when I became editor of my high school newsletter. I loved having the opportunity to write on so many different topics and utilize a variety of styles. |

Christina
Lim |
I am Christina Lim, majoring in management and minoring in international business and economics. I am into my senior year and will be graduating in upcoming August. I had experienced business writing in the real working world last summer as an intern in Singapore where I am from. It was quite an eye-opener as it is very important to be able to communicate ideas and plans in an efficient form when writing memos, and I was writing several memos daily within Prudential where I interned. I was being mentored by a very experienced secretary who is very particular about my memoÕs presentation, language and style. I thought it was rather boring at the beginning but as the multitude of tasks occupied me further, I learned more than I could possibly imagine. I believe I can bring creativity and plenty of energy plus enthusiasm to my peers. This is because I have always enjoyed writing as it comes quite naturally to me. Since an early age, I have been an avid reader, and I continue to read into various genres despite hectic college schedules. Another aspect of me that I am quite proud of is my imagination. Currently, my source of imagination stems from my re-discovery of the most classic of all fantasy books, "Lord of the Rings" and I have a deep respect for Mr. Tolkien. In my high school, I often contributed to creating the class newsletters which is a daily thing in my class where we would write funny and thoughtful mini articles on one ruddy piece of paper passed all over the classroom. As for professional writing, I would say, my resume and cover letter writing is what I practice a lot these days, since I am one of those frustrated job-seekers. Being technology savvy like the generation of today and tomorrow, I am very comfortable using the most up to date software and writing techniques. Yet, learning should never cease, so I look forward to writing more professionally as well as more technologically in the future. |
Jawad
Musaddiq |
My name is Jawad Musaddiq and I was born in Karachi Pakistan on September 27, 1981. When I was eight years old I moved to another city known as Lahore, which is also situated in Pakistan. In Pakistan we have two kinds of schooling systems, one is English medium and the other is Urdu medium. In English medium all the courses are in English on the other hand in Urdu medium all the courses are in English language. In Pakistan we follow the British system of English. After 10th grade I joined high school in which I took mostly business courses. In between my high school I also took 2 courses in British council, to improve my speaking and writing ability. After completing my high school I joined a college there for that time being and applied to Purdue University. I joined Purdue University in summer of 2000 as a management major with MIS minor. I have taken two English courses in Purdue prior of taking English 420i. I also took com114 last semester in which you have to work with groups to give presentation in different topics in front of the class. I am also taking Organizational Behavior course this semester in which I am learning how to work in groups, especially if there is a big diversity in it. I am also a varsity member of Purdue Polo club so I have somewhat of an idea how to work in small group or a team. I am also looking forward to do an internship in a finance department of a firm this summer. After my graduation I will go back to Pakistan and do my MBA there to have an idea about business there. After doing my MBA I will go to U.K to do a diploma in leather technology and join my father in his business. |

I came to the U.S. about three and half years ago. I got an A. A (Associate in Arts) degree from Harper College, a small community college located in Palatine, Illinois, which is less than twenty miles from Chicago. I transferred to Purdue University last fall after finishing three years at Harper, and I chose Purdue because I heard many people say that Purdue's Management Program is very good. I'm a management major and my minor is in Management Information Systems. I'm in my sophomore year. I worked at the Harper College Library until I transferred to Purdue University. That was my first "real" job, and I liked it. The library was a quiet, peaceful place to work, and I was considered a good worker. My duties were many in number, but mostly I was responsible for inserting magnetic (but hidden, to the naked eye) strips in the magazines and journals; if someone were to try to take these magazines and journals out of the library, the strips that I inserted would cause an alarm to sound. Also, I began taking care of/baby-sitting for my cousin when he was two years old (in 1998), and I continued to care for him until he was five (this is when I came to West Lafayette: last fall, 2001). I lived with my cousin and his sister and their parents (my aunt and uncle) for three years, until the beginning of last semester. Sometimes baby sitting can be fun, but not always; little kids can be very loving and very sweet, but they can also be annoying sometimes, as we all know. Besides working and studying, I enjoy shopping, hanging out with friends, and finding good Asian noodle shops, since I'm a noodle lover. Writing daily is my habit (I keep a diary/journal), and that proves that I do write outside of my homework assignments. I wrote several resumes before for my classes, and I'm writing one now for my Management 100 class. Also, I wrote research papers a couple times; I just did one last semester for my political science class, and a student cannot pass Harper College's Freshman Writing sequence (English 101/English 102) without writing a very large literary research paper at the end of the second semester. I was also in Harper's ESL program for a year before I started taking "regular" college classes, and I took writing classes every semester during that year. I learned plenty of writing skills, and I believe in having good writing skills. I believe the ability to express oneself clearly on paper is important (no matter what one does for work), and I truly look forward to learning more about writing. I don't know if the writing I have done is "professional writing," exactly. I guess I felt (before taking this class) that professional writing was done by professional writers who publish their essays, their stories, their poetry, etc. But maybe I was wrong. Maybe we can all be professional writers, so to speak, if we follow the rules of professionalism while we write. |

I am a junior majoring in Food Science. I have been in Purdue for 1.5 years. Right now I am working in Food Science department as a research assistant. My previous English classes were ENGL 101C and ENGL 102I. In ENGL 101C, I learnt a lot to write using Microsoft Words since the course was held in the computer lab. While in ENGL 102I, I had a chance to develop my writing skill with other international students. Writing e-mails, regular reports, and laboratory reports using Word and Excel are my regular activities. By taking this business writing class, I expect that I can learn to write professionally, which will be useful for my future career. I also believe that individual interactions in the class are very important to develop ideas and communication skills. I am looking forward to working with you as my instructor in this class. |

Asad
Zahidi |
My name is Asad Zahidi, but people some times call me acid, whenever they have a hard time saying the name. My date of birth is 21st of February 1983. I am originally from Pakistan but never lived there. I was born in England, Luton to be exact. Shifted to Abu Dhabi in Untied Arab Emirates at the age of six, ever since been there. Throughout, my schooling has been done from British Community School, except for the last two years. In tenth grade I shifted to American International School and graduated from there. Came to Purdue University in fall semester 2000. I am majoring in Accounting with three minors, Finance, Management Information System (MIS) and Economics. This my fourth semester here and I am expecting to graduate by 2004, if things work according to my study plans. My plans after graduation are to get my MBA degree and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) degree. After these degrees I plan to go back to England for the Charted Accountant (CA) degree. But my goal right now is to get an internship in America for this summer. From my schooling and my experiences I have developed certain form of skills in writing which may be useful in my group project. In twelfth grade I ran for the Student Councilor President. We had to give a speech in front of the whole school. I came second and was elected as the treasure of the school. This experience helped me raise my confidence level. I have also taken COM114 here in Purdue University, for which I wrote the speeches and delivered it. This course helped and showed me ways to deliver my speeches. I personally have not had any hardcore writing experience, but I feel I right okay and can help my group with ideas also. |

I chose the picture from the popular sitcom ŌFRIENDSÕ because I have been able to relate to each of the characters at some point in my life. There have been times when I have been watching the show and squealed, "I did that once!" I see myself as a sensible and cool-headed person in general but at the same time I have been found to do silly things, go wild and lose my temper. That is why I believe that there are many sides to a person. We all adjust to our environment. The most important things in my life are my family and my close friends. You cannot live with them nor can you live without them. I have lived most of my life out of my native country but I always make it an effort to remember who I am and not give in to peer pressure. My interests are music, traveling, mountain climbing and anything that has history attached to it. My greatest dream is to go to Egypt and Greece and see all the ancient sites. It does sound boring and very stereotypical; but one cannot ignore the marvels and the mysteries that lie from those ages. I believe that one can be inspired to move ahead in life by learning from the past. |
