International & National

Dr. Reed serves on the editorial review boards of two top scholarly journals for technology education, the Journal of Technology Education and the International Journal of Technology and Design Education. He is active with the Council on Technology and Engineering Teacher Education (CTETE), serving as Vice President (2014-2017), Secretary (2007-2010), as a member of the Yearbook Committee (2007-2012), and as chair of the Research and Scholarship Committee (2001-2007). Additionally, Dr. Reed served as Grand Chapter President/Elect/Past (2006-2008) of Iota Lambda Sigma Honor Society for Workforce Development. At the request of the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA), Dr. Reed has attended meetings of the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and served on the Board of Examiners (BOE) for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Dr. Reed was presented the Award of Distinction by ITEEA in 2009.

Regional & State

Dr. Reed served as President/Elect/Past of the Southeastern Technology Education Conference (STEC) from 2008-2010. He continues to serve as the Virginia Council on Technology Teacher Education (VCTTE) liaison to the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association (VTEEA). Dr. Reed served on the Virginia Space Grant Consortium Advisory Board (2009-2013). He has served on curriculum and Praxis test-score committees for the Virginia Department of Education. Dr. Reed is a member of the Career and Technical Education General Advisory Council for Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

University

Dr. Reed served as the seminal department chair of the STEM Education and Professional Studies (STEMPS) Department from 2009-2013. He helped develop the Ph.D., Occupational and Technical Studies program and has served continuously on department and college committees during his tenure at ODU. Dr. Reed has served as the program leader for both the technology education and industrial technology programs. In this capacity he wrote the NCATE reports for the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate programs in technology education that were both nationally recognized in 2011.
