BIOGRAPHY

Education -  B.S., Purdue University; M.S., University of Wisconsin-Stout; Ed.D., West Virginia University.

Employment -  40 years of experience in education as a teacher at the middle and senior high school levels and professor and administrator at the university level teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Conducted research on middle school, multi-disciplinary education, adolescent development, curriculum development, technology and engineering education, research needs, graduate student perceptions, STEM education, human resources-training, and career and technical education.

Professional -  Member of the International Technology Education Association (Chaired the Awards, Governmental Relations, Standards, Curriculum, and Professional Relations Committees), Council on Technology Teacher Education (President and Treasurer), American Career and Technical Education Association (Past Vice President for Post-Secondary Education), American Society for Curriculum Development, American Society for Training and Development, National Association of Industrial Technology, National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators, Virginia Technology Education Association (Past President), Virginia Career and Technical Education Association, Iota Lambda Sigma (Past Grand Chapter President), Epsilon Pi Tau, Phi Delta Kappa, and World Future Society.

Served as President of the Council on Technology Teacher Education, International Technology Education Association (1996-2000).

Served on the Board of Directors, International Technology Education Association.

Served on the National Commission for Technology For All Americans.

Served on the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Board of Examiners and State Partnerships Board.

Founder and member of Tidewater Technology Associates, a curriculum and instructional writing group for technology education.

Have consulted with 50+ governmental organizations, public schools, departments of education, higher education institutions, technology education associations and industry on education matters ranging from technology education, vocational education, curriculum planning and development, and educational futurism.

Author of 2 textbooks including Exploring Communication (1987, 1996) and Exploring Production Systems (1990), NASA Technology Today (a magazine written for technology, science and mathematics classroom teachers), 150+ journal articles, 18 curriculum guides, and a Council on Technology Teacher Education yearbook (Standards for Technological Literacy, 2002).

Continuously presents papers on technology education at conferences and have served as a participant at the following technology education leadership meetings - Technology Education Summit Conference, Jackson's Mill Curriculum Theory Group, International Technology Education Association Conceptual Framework Group, Critical Issues for Technology Education Toward the 21st Century, Technology Education Leadership Development Charter Class, and National Commission for Technology for All Americans.

Designated a Distinguish Technology Educator by the International Technology Education Association and Scholar by Old Dominion University. Nominated for State Council of Higher Education in Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award Program. Selected as the 1993 Technology Teacher Educator of the Year by the Council on Technology Teacher Education. Become a member of the International Technology Education Academy of Fellows, 1997, and Technical Foundation of America Fellow (2013).

Provided worldwide in-service for the U.S. Department of Defense Dependent Schools, International Labour Organization, and co-authored the U.S. Army Basic Instructor course.
