Conducting Primary Research

Purpose

During today's lesson we will discuss different approaches to conducting primary research. You will then have an opportunity to work on composing your Proposal.

Freewrite: DePew v. Weitz

For the first ten minutes of class, answer the following questions and keep your responses for your portfolio:

  • How is the way that DePew collected data different from the way that Weitz collected data? How is each scholar's approach a response to the respective research questions?
  • How is the way that DePew wrote up his article different from the way that Weitz wrote up her article? How is each scholar's approach a response to the respective research questions?
  • What questions would you ask each author about the way they conducted their research if you had an opportunity to ask the author?

After ten minutes, we will discuss your answers to these questions.

Workshop I: Getting to it

You will have the balance of the class to work on writing your proposal. If you have written a draft, you are encouraged to share it and peer review with another student who also has a complete draft.
