Introductions

Purpose

Today you will be introduced to the course and given the opportunity to start pondering what good writing is and what it means to write at the college-level.

Syllabus

Use the first ten minutes of class to look over the syllabus. Take notes on anything that stands out to you and that you would like to discuss with the instructor. For five minutes get into groups with three other people around you and discuss the items that you took notes on. See you you can help address each other's concerns.

Freewrite & Discussion: What is Good Writing?

Write for the next ten minutes of class on the following questions:

What are the features of good writing? Why are these features important?

After ten minutes the instructor will lead a discussion about the features of good writing, what the perceptions and reality are.
