Data/Results

Purpose

The results section is similar to other writing that many of you have done. In past writing experiences, you have reported what you have learned by doing textual research. Often as you reported the data that you found in books, you explained how this information supported your thesis. Similarly in the results section, you will be reporting your the data of the research you have done. But here you will mostly just be reporting what you discovered without any commentary; that will come in the discussion section.

Activity I: Collaborating from Across the Room

Each of you have been assigned to a Google Document. "Meet" others in your group in this document and work together to answer the questions based upon the section you were assigned.

Group Members
1–Freshman Becky, Brian, Kestyn, Wanangwa, Reid
2–Sophomore Simone, Chad, Trish, Danielle, Aaron
3–Junior Philip, Olivia, Jesse, Yaminequa, Ifrah
3–Senior David, Morgan, Cody, Dominick, Darah

You will answer the following questions together. In your answers, be detailed by referring to specific passages and pages in the Haas article:

  • What does Haas learn about Eliza's literacy practices during this specific year?
  • How does Eliza's practices during this year compare to her practices in other years?
  • What questions do you have about this section?
  • How would you answer at least one of the questions from the instructors' annotations in this section?

We will discuss your responses at the end of class.
