Getting Started

Purpose At this early stage in the research process, you and your group will want to define your roles and responsibilities throughout the research process. Today's class will give you a chance to work together, with the instructor's assistance to accomplish this task.

After the Reporting group has reported their conversation with the DLC representatives, each person will meet with their group.

In these groups you will write a memo to the instructor and the class. In this memo you will develop your role and responsibility for this research project. At the end of the project, this document will be used to determine whether the group has fulfilled its role; you should use this document to develop your group response at the end of the project.

In writing this memo, you should refer to the project plan to answer the following questions:

  • What research questions will your group be answering?
  • How (i.e., by what means or methods) will the group answering these questions?
  • What information will your group be producing? Who will the audience of these documents be?
  • Where will you get the information necessary to complete your tasks from (this will include specific resources, individuals, or other groups)? What resources will you need?
  • What is your timeline for completing your tasks?

The answers to your questions will be negotiated, so please feel free to assert a plan of action even if it may be contingent upon what other groups do.

If time permits, we will discuss these memos. When you are done, print a copy for the instructor and send a copy to the listserv.
