 IS 795/895  INTERDEPENDENCE

"The class always fostered critical discussions of the pertinent topics and the instructor facilitated these discussions very well. He also provided additional materials for further study, broadening the horizon of the overall international studies field."

"Student and instructor interaction was a great supplement to the required readings. Instructor pushed students to continue to build on the theory required for the degree and the area of study."

"The readings as well as the discussions in class were very stimulating and thought provoking. The professor did an excellent job of engaging the students in interesting discussions. Overall, one of the best classes I have ever taken."

"Dr. Yetiv is interesting and stimulating as a lecturer. Enthusiastic instructor, engaged well with the class."

"The class had a healthy amount of discussion on both theoretical and practical topics and the instructor was willing to entertain various ideas. Also, he was very well-versed in the topic and a dynamic teacher."

POLS 100S-INTRODUCTION TO INTERNATIONAL POLITICS

"I have never had an instructor here at ODU who demonstrates greater enthusiasm, humor, or compassion."

"This class was a real benefit to each of us in the major. The only problem is that we can't repeat this class for credit.."

"Great instructor! Comes to class with an extraordinary enthusiasm and really gets into his lectures. Great sense of humor and can be relied on by all students. Encourages participation in class and stresses past issues with today's events."

"Dr. Yetiv is an excellent instructor. He assists all students with any questions or problems they have. He brought a sense of humor into the lectures and made the subject interesting. I feel he is a fair grader and a compassionate teacher. I only wish he taught more of the required classes."

"This was a great class! Mr. Yetiv is very personable and interesting. All of his classes are easy to understand, he is very organized and thorough. I will definitely take all of his classes that I am able to. His classes have always been delightful for he makes a subject that could be very dry, interesting. He interjects humor into the lessons and he encourages everyone."

"Dr. Yetiv is the best instructor I am currently enrolled under. In each and every class period I learn something new. His presentation is to the point and non-biased, allowing us to form our own opinions. He encourages expression of different views. Respect is commanded without airs of superiority. I am quite impressed with Dr. Yetiv."

"Mr. Yetiv, is a very capable and intelligent instructor. I learned a lot from him. I admire his tendency to argue both sides of an issue and not argue for what he thought was right of wrong. I am a senior taking this course as an elective and I have come across very few instructors like Dr. Yetiv because he has the capability to put things in laymen's terms."

"Mr. Yetiv has been very impressive in his over-all performance this semester. He has shown that he is rather educated in his field in that he has adequately responded to any question of the class and provided a foundation or history behind the answer. He has also been consistent in providing both sides to every argument, and in a diplomatic manner."

"Mr. Yetiv is an excellent teacher. He has made this class worth taking. He is by far my best teacher at the University and one of the best teachers I've had to date."

"Strengths - Yetiv is knowledgeable but puts knowledge into easy to understand language. He has a comfortable teaching style and is well organized. His class is a pleasure to attend. It is unfortunate that more teachers are not like Yetiv. He would be a good model for teacher at ODU to aspire to. Weaknesses - The class is too large. Efforts should be made to limit this class to 25 students."

"Dr. Yetiv is a super instructor. I am a junior at Old Dominion and Dr. Yetiv is the best instructor I have had so far. He gives hard, but fair test which tests your knowledge of the subject. Mainly, Dr. Yetiv keeps the material interesting and makes the class enjoyable. A lot of class discussion is involved, so the students are involved too."

"Steve does a wonderful job in teaching the material. Many times instructors of POLS courses allow their liberal or conservative views to bleed through. If that happens it doesn't bother me personally, but it can alienate some students. Steve hasn't allowed this to happen. He allowed students to think about these issues on their own time, and not his."

"The instructor was extremely good in explaining concepts and situations. His lectures are very interesting, and he is very good at getting the class involved and attempting to get to know all the students. That was very impressive. This is one of the best classes I have taken here."

"Dr. Yetiv has been a wonderful inspiration to me in my pursuit of a political science degree. He has a great ability to communicate and get the class involved in discussion. We need more like him at ODU."

POLS 324-INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THEORY

"Dr. Yetiv is the best instructor I have had in my four years at this University. He makes me appreciate the value of education. I have enjoyed his class discussions the most. He is a great asset to the department and the university."

"I thought this course was excellent, and the instructor was superb. I was very interested in the subjects we discussed and I enjoyed participating in class. I felt like I knew the material, but the grading of tests was too critical. If a correct answer is given it should be given maximum points. I think the grading of tests should be a bit more forgiving".

"This class has been conducted brilliantly!" "Dr. Yetiv rules!"

"I cannot consider any way in which this course can be improved short of the perfection that it is."

"A course in political ideology can seem very intimidating especially for a woman, but in Mr. Yetiv's class there is an open relaxed environment where ideas and liberal opinions can flow freely. We had phenomenal class discussions!"

"ODU is blessed to have Dr. Yetiv. He is a very intelligent and effective instructor. I have learned so much from all his classes. He is kind and fair to all kinds of people. I would take his classes again if I was not going to graduate. I am proud to say that I have been a student of Dr. Yetiv. I have learned so much about international politics form him. He is organized, punctual, intelligent, courteous, fair, friendly and helpful when we need clarification in our lessons. Dr. Yetiv is one of the best professors ODU has."

"Excellent course with a superb instructor/professor. I wish the professor would profess more than lecture on certain issues. Some students like myself, seek a mentor like Dr. Yetiv appears to have with Joseph Nye and others."

"I did not know what to expect from this class and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. This class thoroughly covered several theories within International Relations and examples of those theories. Dr. Yetiv actively encourages participation and while I have difficulty speaking in classes, I have been a little better in this one. I would enjoy taking another one of his classes in the future."

"I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. Dr. Yetiv encourages everyone to participate which helps everyone understand the material better. This is definitely one of the classes I have taken that will have a direct impact on my career and future."

"Speaking as a political science major, Dr. Yetiv is the most effective and enthusiastic instructor I have encountered within the department. I have learned more and have been able to effectively analyze situations in this class more so than any other class I have taken in my scholastic career. My grade may not reflect this - I expect a B, but speaking as a full-time student, who is also employed full-time and married - I am the best judge of what I will walk away from in this class. I will take with me what I have learned from this instructor to all facets of my life."

"Professor Yetiv is a great professor. He really seeks to help the students and their need. Prof. Yetiv may God bless you!"

POLS 326-AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY

"Steve is an awesome instructor. The guy really knows the material thoroughly and makes you enthusiastic about learning. I have personally learned more out of this class than any other. This class has helped me learn not just American Foreign Policy but American History. It is refreshing to know that questions will not go unanswered due to lack of true interest by the instructor. Mr. Yetiv is up to date and thorough on his info and challenges the student to learn and become interested in American Foreign Policy."

"Professor Yetiv is one of the most outstanding instructors I have had the privilege of studying with. He commands thorough knowledge of the subject material and is able to make it very interesting and inspires class participation as interest in the topic."

"Dr. Yetiv is one of the best instructors I have had at ODU. He presents the material in a clear and effective way that makes the material interesting and easy to understand. Dr. Yetiv is a very good communicator and is very knowledgeable."

"Extremely good instructor with very good and interesting lectures. Allowed class to enjoy itself while still going over all the material. He also showed a lot of enthusiasm for the material and was very accessible to students."

"Dr. Yetiv is great - his lectures are completely coherent and easy to follow. I wish we had more teachers at ODU like him. Make sure to give him plenty of incentives to stay!"

"The instructor was well presented and instructor seemed to truly enjoy subject. The instructor was accessible even though it was beyond posted office hours. I would hope all instructors at ODU were as committed to the students."

"Course was excellent! I have learned an extreme amount of information in this course. Lots of lively discussions. It certainly made me think about the motivations of international actions."

"A truly gifted teacher. I can't say when I've looked so forward to Thursday nights. Dr. Yetiv's knowledge of his subject makes for a super class. I think ODU should do whatever they can to keep such a professional teacher. He will bring great prestige to this university."

"I think Dr. Yetiv is a strong professor and teaches excellent. He is enthusiastic about the material, But I  wish he would condense the reading material. It is hard to remember for test time specific incidents from the books. Otherwise - he's great!"

"I love his class a lot. I always enjoy to work with this class. It takes a lot of time to understand all material which we learn from every class because he covers a lot. But it is very beneficial."

"I enjoyed this class more than any other course I have taken. I believe his teaching method is great and it makes me want to come to class. I wish all my professors could teach this good."

"Being completely new to the subject of Political Science, I found Dr. Yetiv to be an exceptional teacher. His methods provided an ease of learning to the subject that have both benefitted my class grade and strength of knowledge in the subject."

"Enjoyed the class. Being active duty navy during 69-89 a time frame of what was taught I was on the bottom looking up. Appreciate that time and experiences more."

"I am a midshipman in the NROTC program, and this class was mandatory for the program. I am an environmental health major and have not taken a political science class since my A.P. government class in high school. Dr. Yetiv has been an outstanding professor. I look forward to coming to class eager to learn a topic that I now know a lot about."

"My experience having Dr. Yetiv as a professor has proved to be most rewarding. He is an exceptional "teacher" in all respects. Talented, knowledgeable, well presented-organized, and inspirational."

POLS 327-POLITICS OF NATIONAL SECURITY

"When I enrolled at ODU this was a class that I had hoped to take. Academic instruction and class interaction at its highest level. Debates, arguments and professional moderation made this the best non-history class I have taken. His knowledge and experience are impeccable and are great reflections on the university."

"Dr. Yetiv is one of the most influential instructors of all I have had the pleasure to study under throughout my college career. His unique teaching style couples a thorough knowledge of the subject material with a keen insight and great sense of humor. It is a pleasure to be in his class. We learn about the world above and beyond the limits of the class topics. Kudos and accolades don't do justice to his talent. This guy is a keeper!"

"Dr. Yetiy has a strong grasp on the material presented in class; he is clearly outstanding in his field. I am very impressed with his ability to stimulate good classroom discussion and encourage these discussions. I am also impressed with his ability to remain neutral in most arguments, with the exception of playing "devil's advocate" during discussions. I do feel he expects too much information to be given back to him during exams and tests, considering that it is a time-pressure situation."

"Great guy - he's always available for questions. He's even assisted me in classes not related to his. I'm already signed up for his class in Fall 1995. He was highly recommended to me and I will highly recommend him to everyone considering one of his courses. He is one of the few professors to impress me in my years at ODU I have no other comments."

"Like the falcon that rides high on the winds, so does Dr. Yetiv express enthusiasm for the material of this course. May the tree in your yard grow as high as the clouds and the water always flow from your faucet."

"Dr. Yetiv is a true expert in the field of national security and Middle East Studies. Old Dominion University could not have picked a finer individual to be professor of the aforementioned topics. His skills as an educator are of the highest quality and are superior to most educators I have experienced to this date."

POLS 601-INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THEORY

"Instructor's enthusiasm to teach was very extraordinary."

"One of the best instructors I've ever had ... Excellent doesn't suffice for his brilliance. I know many departments who'd die to have him at their university. Including Harvard! Wake up, please, O.D.U!"

"This is an excellent course. All students should take it in their first year. It clarifies the underlying theory for all other advanced courses. Steve Yetiv does a wonderful job. He should be given tenure as soon as possible. He makes himself available nearly all day to students. Most importantly he never bashes students or ODU."

"Dr. Yetiv is a very good teacher. He has a great sense of humor and he makes classes very interesting by launching debates. He has very effective teaching methods and he really incentives the students to participate in the weekly discussions. He is doing a great job. Great teacher. My favorite course."

"I thoroughly enjoyed this course and Dr. Yetiv. A most interesting, provocative professor. I was most surprised with how kindly he treated all students and encouraged us all to present or views. positive about what ever someone had to say about a particular subject. It clearly knows his subject and presented his material enthusiastically. If he ever asks for a raise - give it to him. He deserves it!"

"This was one of the best courses I have taken in graduate school. The course is limited by the instructors knowledge which was why the lectures by Yetiv were so good, his knowledge was top-notch. I'm glad to have been in Dr. Yetiv's theory course."

"Dr. Yetiv is very accessible, a rarity today. He goes out of his way very often to accommodate the students. The material in this class is very difficult, and sometimes I feel a bit lost, but Dr. Yetiv doesn't make examples, or embarrass us in class."

POLS 466 AND 795/898 - POLITICS OF THE MIDDLE EAST

"Dr. Yetiv is such a good teacher. I sincerely believe that a good teacher is key to the learning process. Dr. Yetiv has not only passed on knowledge to me, but is also someone who I look up to and regard very highly. I wish that he taught more undergraduate classes because if he did I would take all of them. The 15 page paper really is making me think. Although I wish I could have done my first or second topic I am still enjoying the paper and hope to submit it to the Middle East Quarterly Student Writing Contest."

"The class is incredibly interesting and relevant. I enjoyed the material, so that helped. The class discussions required critical thinking."

"By Far the BEST TEACHER I'VE Ever HAD! The class is always filled with students because he makes it so enjoyable and fun. Critical thinking skills are developed in this class. It is my favorite course this semester."

"By far this has been my favorite class. Very informative. Just a very interesting subject being taught by a very knowledgeable professor. Loved it!"

"Dr. Yetiv has really had an impact on me although I can not exactly say how."

Yetiv is a great instructor. Had him last semester and specifically looked for another class that he would be teaching. He has just the right balance of lecture and class participation. He makes sure to engage the students as much as possible. His knowledge on this particular subject was great, and he is all around an awesome professor."

By far, the BEAT TEACHER I'VE ever HAD!"

Dr. Yetiv is so incredibly knowledgeable (and that's an understatement) about US Middle Eastern policy."

"There was a general enthusiasm and interest on the part of the instructor that was passed along to the students."

"Very well organized class. Excellent content. Very good atmosphere - student-student/ student-teacher relationship. I would recommend it."

"The professor is particularly sensitive to the diverse back-grounds of his students in this area. He makes all students feel comfortable learning and exploring subjects on the topic."

"I really enjoyed this class. It was well organized and gave an excellent overview of the major issues in the Middle East. All around it was a great class. Dr. Yetiv is very knowledgeable and obviously loves the subject. I particularly liked the updates and the presentations. I thought they were very helpful."
