Dr. Christine A. Ward is an assistant professor in the
Counseling and Human Services department at Old Dominion University. Dr. Ward
received her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas
A&M University – Corpus Christi in 2009. She holds a M.Ed. in School
Counseling from the University of North Florida and a B.S. in Business
Administration from Trinity University. Dr. Ward has served as an assistant
professor in the counseling program since 2010. Prior to teaching, she served
as a faculty researcher for The Center for Educational Partnerships at Old
Dominion.
Dr. Ward teaches masters and doctoral level courses,
including Counseling Children and
Adolescents in School Settings (COUN 678), Introduction to Counseling Supervision (COUN 670), and Research Methods and Program Evaluation (COUN
835). Her specialty area is school counseling and application of the ASCA
National Model®.
Her
research interests include school counseling and academic achievement, school
counseling supervision, understanding and responding to issues facing
military-connected children and their families, and resiliency in military
families. Currently, Dr. Ward serves as the principal investigator (co-PI’s
include Dr. Kathleen Levingston and Dr. Laurie Craigen) for the service
delivery component of a $2.5Million Department of Defense Education Activity
(DoDEA) grant in partnership with Newport News Public Schools and The Center
for Educational Partnerships at ODU.
She works with TEAMS (Teaching,
Education, and Awareness for Military-Connected Students), an interdisciplinary university group that promotes the interests of
military-connected students and their families. She also does program
evaluation and research for Camp C.O.P.E., a therapeutic program for children of deployed, injured, and
fallen service members.
