COUN 670 – Introduction to Counseling Supervision
Course Purpose:
This
course is designed to introduce students to current theories, techniques,
processes and practices of counselor supervision. Students will gain an
understanding of key elements of supervision in clinical and administrative
settings across the spectrum of counseling settings. Students will have the
opportunity to practice and apply supervision skills and theories through
coaching, classroom activities, presentations, and assignments.
Learning Objectives/Course Goals:
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
· Understand the purposes and fundamentals of counselor supervision
· Identify, understand, and apply basic modalities of clinical and administrative supervision
· Identify, understand, and apply major theoretical perspectives of counselor supervision
· Understand and demonstrate basic clinical and administrative counseling supervision skills
· Understand the importance of various elements of supervision for promoting counselor effectiveness and personal and professional development of counseling supervisees
· Understand the supervisory relationship and its similarities to and differences from the counseling relationship
· Understand the current trends and research in counselor supervision
· Develop and demonstrate a personal style of supervision
· Understand legal, ethical, and multicultural issues associated with counselor supervision
