Dill
Dill, Anethum graveolens, is mentioned only in Matthew 23:23. The exact identity of this plant is not known although it could be the common dill which is used to flavor pickles, etc. However, in the Middle East, there are many common wild relatives including fennel, Foeniculum vulgare, and a close relative of dill, Ridolfia segetum, which are all used in the same way. All of these are annual plants with yellow flowers and possess a pungent oil in all parts of the plant.
