Extra Credit 

Students have the opportunity to obtain extra credit through participation in a variety of campus and off-campus events. In order to receive extra credit for participating in these events, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • Attend the event
  • Submit to your instructor a one page summary of the event (typed, double-spaced)
  • Attach the chit (ticket) provided at the event to the summary to verify your participation in the event

Each student can earn up to ten (10) extra points (5 points per event) which will be added to your final point score at the end of the semester. Extra Credit for Spring 2007 events will be added to this list as they become available

**Writing Tutorial Services will offer several presentations throughout the semester on various wrting issues.  The presentations are scheduled for February 1, 8, 22, March 1, 15, 29 and April 5, 12.  The presentations will be held in BAL 105-20 (The Megalab) from 12:30-1:20 pm.  These sessions will count as extra credit in addition to those listed below.  For further information see your instructor who has the specific topics for each session**

January

February (Black History Month)

February 1 - - Jeffrey Johnson, political and social activist and producer and host of BET TV's "The Cousin Jeff Chronicles" will give a talk commemorating Black History month.  Location:  MGB 101.  Program begins 7 pm.

February 2 - - Annual Black History Month lecture, featuring Marjorie L. Kimbrough, aughor of "Accept No Limitations" and "Beyond Limitations."  Location:  Hampton/Newport News Room, Webb Center.  Program begins: 7:30 pm.

February 9 - - "African-American Women in History," a talk by Lauranett Lee, history instructor.  Location: Cape Charles Room, Webb Center.  Time:  12:30-1:30 pm.

February 9 - - Black Politics 101: Meet Congressperson Bobby Scott to discuss how to make your voice heard and how to make members of Congress work for you.  Location:  Chespeake Room, Webb Center.  Time:  7-8:30 pm

March (Women's History Month)

March 1 - - Black Student Alliance will hold his general assembly meetin.  The meeting will include a discussion of issues facing African-American women.  Location:  Isle of Wight Room, Webb Center.  Time:  7-8 pm.

March 2 - - 'Women of Hate:  New Millennium Thinkers?" a video presentation.  Location:  James River Room, Webb Center.  Time: 12:30-1:30 pm.

March 21 - - Gloria Steinham, journalist, activist and founder of Ms. Magazine.  Sponsored by ODU Women's Center.  Location:  North Cafeteria, Webb Center.  Program begins:  7 pm.

April

April 2 - - 2007 Great Decisions Lecture Series, "Climate Change and Global Warming," a talk by ODU political scientist,  Dr. Glen Sussman.  Location:  Portsmouth,VB Room, Webb Center.  Time:  3-4:15 pm.

April 5 - - Panel discussion about the "US. and Iraq War," with Dr. Steve Yetiv, Dr. Regina Karp and Dr. Jesse Richman, ODU political scientists.  Location:  MGB 101.  Time:  12:15-1:30 pm.

April 9 - - 2007 Great Decisions Lecture Series, "Protecting the World's Endangered Children," a talk by ODU sociologist, Dr. Lucien Lombardo.  Location:  Bal 9024.  Time 3-4:15 pm.

April 19  - - Panel discussion about "Climate Change and Global Warming" with Dr. Fred Dobbs and Dr. Dave Burdige, oceanographers, Dr. Jens Bischoff, geologist and Mr. Skip Stiles, political consultant with Dr. Glen Sussman as moderator.  Location:  CONST 1002.  Time:  12:15-1:20 pm
