Events

Students will have the opportunity to gain extra credit points through attendance at campus events.  These events will be added to the schedule below throughout the semester.  Students will attend the event, obtain an attendance chit , and attach the chit to a two-page summary of the event (e.g., the purpose and subject of the event, who participated in the event, what you learned by attending the event.

Students can earn 5 points per event (limit:  2 events)

The two-page summary must be submitted to the insturctor no later than one week after the event.  Otherwise, the summary will not be accepted.

January

January 31 - - "Go or Stay?  Hurricane Vulnerability and Evacuations."  Seminar by Dr. Josh Behr and Dr. Rafael Diaz, ODU.  Location:  Engineering and Compuational Sciences Building, 1st floor auditorium.  Time:  12:30-1:30 pm.

February

February 19 - - Van Jones, former White House green jobs advisor, environmental advocate, and civil rights activist will give the keynote address for Black History Month.  Location:  Webb Center, North Cafeteria.  Time:  Begins 6:30 pm.

March

April

April 16 - - Webinar:  "Communicating Climate in a Time of Rapid Change," a talk by Tom Bowman.  Location:  Conference Room on the 3rd floor of IRB 1 building (near corner of 41st and Monarch Way).  Time:  12 noon -12:30 pm.  NOTE:  I WAS JUST INFORMED THAT THE ROOM IS SMALL AND HAS SEATING LIMITATIONS.  IF YOU WANT TO ATTEND, LET ME KNOW BY NOON TOMORROW.  I CAN ONLY ALLOW A MAXIMUM OF 5 STUDENTS FROM OUR CLASS.  THE FIRST 5 THAT I HEAR FROM CAN ATTEND.  SORRY AND THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.

April 29 - - "The Climate Situation Report:  Military Leaders on the Emerging Threat."  Speakers:  Admiral Larry Baucom (USN, retired) and Captain Joe Bouchard (USN, retired).  Location:  Living Sea Theater, Nauticus in downtown Norfolk.  Time:  6-8 pm.  NOTE:  I'm increasing the points from 5 to 10 since this is an off-campus event.
