ESSE 574, Trends and Issues in Early Childhood Education, is a graduate-level class with a theory-into-practice goal. The focus for this class will be to examine current theory, research and practices related to the education of young children, birth to age eight.
The purpose of this course is to address the needs of students who wish to know more about the past, the present, and the future of Early Childhood Education. A central tenet of the course is that the process of child development cannot be separated from early childhood education. Therefore, assigned readings will address aspects of child development, as well as specific trends and issues in Early Childhood Education. As a professional educator, knowledge gained in this course will enhance your ability to work with diverse students and their families, as well as to modify curriculum in order to meet the needs of your students in a variety of settings.
