COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding for:

  1. the major theories of human development and learning; research in social, emotional, cognitive, language, motor, and perceptual development and learning in children, birth through age eight; and study of the child in the family context;
  2. theories and content of curriculum and instruction and alternative teaching models and ways of knowing;
  3. alternative perspectives regarding key trends and issues Early Childhood Education;
  4. early childhood curricula;
  5. child care and other early childhood education environments;
  6. program planning for children from diverse cultural and language backgrounds, as well as children of different age and developmental levels;
  7. the diversity of delivery systems through which programs are offered for young children and their families;
  8. foundations of Early Childhood Education.
