Grading

 

Letter grades are given to each assignment. Final course grades are computed as a weighted average.

 

Comm 412-- Undergraduates
  • Case Study papers (5)   35%
  • Midterm vocabulary exam 15%
  • IPC Journal             10%
  • Topics paper (1)        20%
  • Final exam              20%

Exams (412 and 512) There will be two examinations. The midterm exam will cover the vocabulary of the first half of the course and contain short answer items. The final exam covers the second half of the course and will contain short answers and two essay items. See Course Calendar for dates.    

 

Case study Papers (412) COMM 412 students will complete five 1-2 page case-study papers (one each week). See the assignments page for assignment instructions. These papers are to be typed, double spaced, error-free, and follow the prescribed formatting requirements. See course calendar for sue dates.

 

IPC Journal (412). COMM 412 students are to complete an ongoing structured journal that describes and reflects on various interpersonal communication episodes. Instructions, grading criteria are located at the Assignments page and see the Course Calendar for the due date.

 

IPC Topics Paper. (412). This is a paper of not longer then 7 pages that closely examines an IPC topic of the student's choosing by means of review of a journal article and an interview about the topic with a relational partner. Details for the assignment will appear in the assignments page and consult course calendar for due date.

 

COMM 512- Graduate Students

Literature Review Paper and Research Proposal Paper (COMM 512). Students taking the course for graduate credit will complete two larger written assignments (at least 10 pages each). Students should plan to meet individually with the instructor to talk about the nature and direction of these papers as well as setting up of due dates.

 

Instructional Presentation (COMM 512) Graduate students will also read an additional book pertaining to an aspect of interpersonal communication of their choosing, summarize the book in a paper of 3-5 pages and present this information to the class in a lecture of not less than 15 minutes.
