CHAPTER NOTES

CHEM 115N Students:  The notes for Chapters 1 - 9 shown below will not be used for the Fall 2006 semester class.  Instead, the notes will be posted in the Course Documents section of the CHEM 115N Blackboard site.  However, the information on the ACS final exam and Review study notes are still applicable.

First-term Freshman Chemistry Topics in ACS Exam Guide

  1. Atomic Structure - we covered all of this material this semester
  2. Molecular Structure & Bonding - we covered all of this material
  3. States of Matter/Solutions - most of this will be covered next semester. However, the gas laws will be included on this exam, so you should try practice problems 12 - 14. In addition, we did discuss preparing solutions, so try practice problems 15 - 18.
  4. Energetics - we covered thermochemistry only. Try EN-1 through EN 6, practice problems 1 - 22.
  5. Dynamics - next semester = s material
  6. Equilbrium - next semester = s material
  7. Electrochemistry & redox - we covered only a small part of this section. Try ER-1, ER-3, ER- 5; practice problems 1 - 8, 10 & 11. The remainder of this material will be covered next semester.
  8. Descriptive Chemistry & Periodicity - DP-3, DP 6 -10. Practice problems 1, 13 - 30
  9. Laboratory Chemistry - LC-1 through LC-7, LC-9 & 10. Practice problems 1 - 9, 16, 17, 19, 20.
